Building is one of the four pillars of gameplay in Stationeers.

Overview[ | ]

  • Building a space station or colony requires you to gather resources, process them at manufacturing stations (which are part of the Building mechanics), and then construct them.
  • The game features a detailed simulation of Atmospherics, gravity, and other factors that affect structural stability and habitability of given structures.

Structure Placement[ | ]

When building stations, the world is arranged in a large grid, which is, in itself, divided into a small grid. As structures are placed, they will either snap to the large grid, or the small grid, depending on the type of structure. The main structures that are built in the large grid are Frames and Walls, while most other structures are placed on the small grid.

When building Motherships, the same principles apply, but the large grid for individual motherships will have its' own orientation and position, onto which structures are added.

Build States[ | ]

Some structures in the game will not be complete by just building them from your hand. They are placed in what's called an initial build state. A structure can have up to three build states, but more may be added in the future. In different states, structures may be differing in functionality. In order to finish build states, you will in need to add more materials to the structure. In some cases, such as with frames, you will need to use a welder in order to add the materials needed for the next build state.

Basic Building Tips[ | ]

  • To construct frames after placing, hold sheets in one hand and operate the welder in the other. Press "O" to turn the welder on. Deconstruction of frame can be done with the angle grinder.
  • To construct walls after the frame placement, hold sheets in active hand and left click to construct. Deconstruction can be done with the crowbar.
  • In early versions your welder's fuel tank will explode due to heating from the sun. To refill it so it is functional you will need to create Fuel as 100% H2/Volatile gas will not work. A mix of 70% oxygen to 30% volatile (H2) is confirmed to work.
